Private Steve McDonald

6103
Stephen J. McDonald
Royal Newfoundland Regiment

Son of: Thomas McDonald
Cartwright, Labrador

Enlisted 26 Aug 1918
Age 21
Discharged 21 Dec. 1818

d. 14 Oct 1971

In a letter found in his personnel file he asked for compensation for the cost of travel back to Cartwright after being discharged in St. John's. The government gave him a train ticket that took him as far as Humbermouth in the Bay of Islands and from there via coastal boat to Battle Harbour. That was as far as the boat went at that time of year so from there he was on his own and had to find his own way north over the300 miles to his home.
