He stated that his enlistment was conditional upon being transferred to the Newfoundland Regiment
upon arrival in England. This never happened,
which was probably a lucky thing for Thomas
Henry because the Nfld. Regiment was virtually
wiped out on July 1st, 1916 at Beaumont Hamel.
