Enlisted: 14 December 1914
Age 22
Embarked: 3 Feb 1915
Served in Gallipoli (1915), France (The Somme 1916) and Belgium (The Ypres Salient 1916), Scotland 1917-19
Discharged on demobilization 16 February 1919.

Wounded at Gallipoli, 29 Nov 15: Shrapnel in left thigh and right shoulder. Sent to convalescent camp in Malta.

Wounded in France,12 Oct 16: Shrapnel in left knee. Invalided to hospital in England. Given medical discharge and returned to Newfoundland. Detached to special duty, recruiting, in Newfoundland from October to December 1917.

Re-enlisted in Nfld. Forestry Unit, 10 Dec.1917 and promoted to Corporal. Returned to Scotland on 30 Dec 1917, where he served until after the end of the war. Discharged on demobilization 6 Feb 1919.

 


Joe Michelin Jr .was born in Sabisquasho, Lake Mellville, Labrador. He enlisted with the first contingent of the Newfoundland Regiment and served with the RNR and NFU for the duration of the war. Upon discharge he returned home for a brief period but moved, shortly thereafter, to the USA where he died in the 1930s. He never married.
