Portfolio Description

“Growing up, we used to spend a lot of time with our Nan, our grandmother Andrea. We would go over to her house in the afternoons, evenings and sew with her, even just watch her sew. A lot of inspiration and learning came from her and some other elders and seamstresses in Hopedale, because in school, we had Life Skills class, and we would sew and stuff there.” Veronica Flowers, ‘Learning from Nan”

“Sometimes I just feel the urge to write. I feel like somethings missing if I go out without a pen and paper. So sometimes if I don’t have that, I just write notes on my phone, using the handwriting feature, because I feel handwriting is what I need to express myself.” Megan Dicker Nochasak, ‘I Need to Write’

“I grew up in a storytelling household, so I learned a bit of that, and then when I was in high school, I was into drama, the drama festivals and drama club and all that. That helped me become more of an actor in my own personal life and the way I tell stories. When I’m talking to people, normally its okay, but when I get in storytelling mode, it’s hard to stop!” Jason Shiwak, ‘Pushing Boundaries and Experimenting’
